Box weight from basis weight calculator
Estimate the weight of an empty corrugated box from its blank area and the combined weight of the board.
Calculator
5.83 ft²
Board area per box. Enter paper weights for the box weight.
combined = outer + inner + medium × take-up
weight = 5.83 ft² × combined ÷ 1,000
weight = 5.83 ft² × combined ÷ 1,000
How it works
- Combined weight (lb/MSF) = sum of liner weights + Σ(medium weight × take-up factor).
- Box weight = blank area (ft²) × combined weight ÷ 1,000.
- Packgent has no verified board weights, so you enter your mill's figures.

Reading the result
Box weight matters for parcel billing on light products, for the gross weight in the stacking tool and for the weight limits in freight classification rules.
Use the liner and medium weights from your mill or box maker's spec sheet. The take-up factor accounts for the medium being longer than the board because it is fluted.
